This project by Bridgeman Developers is proceeding through the approval process with the Society Hill Civic Association. It is expected that we will have the SHCA's decision within a relatively short period of time. The District has voiced its strong belief that this project should receive approval for several reasons: Obviously a 5 star hotel will bring guests with $$'s to spend into our area and will also have the potential of revitalizing the immediate area and portions of South Street. We also support this project because we have been again working with Paul Levy and Councilman DiCicco to use a new to Philadelphia form of financing, called TIF, (Tax Increment Financing) to do the 2nd Street Plaza project mentioned above. TIF's have been used successfully in many cities, especially Chicago, to create new projects using the anticipated additional revenue generated by new constriction.

SSHHD, partnered with Paul Levy the CEO of the Center City District, to produce drawings for the 2nd Street Plaza located between South and Lombard Streets. The idea is to turn this area into some semblance of a piazza rather than a parking lot. Of course, there had to be no loss of parking in the immediate area which made the project particularly challenging. The project has been through the initial phases with Society Hill Civic Association (SHCA) and Queen Village Neighbors Association (QVNA) and received their support. We are working directly with Councilman DiCicco on creative financing for this project.

It was a pleasure to see the thousands of daffodils, planted last fall, come up in the spring of 2007. The majority of the bushes and perennials planted when the BBG was redone in June of '06, also survived through the winter and added color to the area. An additional 100 mums were recently planted to carry us into late fall.
